Ruth Kingsley Mfon was born on September 22, 1978 in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. She grew up in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, and completed her primary education at D.S.C Model Primary School 11 in Aladja Bendel State. She then attended Comprehensive Secondary School in Ndiya Ikono, where she obtained her West African Senior Secondary School Certificate (WASSSC) and Junior School Leaving Certificate.
Driven by her passion for justice and human rights, Ruth pursued a career in law. She graduated from the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom, with an LLB degree. Following her undergraduate studies, Ruth attended the Nigeria Law School Lagos Campus, where she obtained her Bachelor of Law (BL) degree.
Ruth’s commitment to addressing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) led her to specialize in this field. She has over 14 years of experience as an experienced legal practitioner, with a focus on SGBV cases. Currently, she serves as an Assistant Chief State Counsel at the Department of Sexual Gender Base Violence Response Unit, Ministry of Justice in Uyo, Akwa Ibom. In this role, Ruth is responsible for conducting sensitization programs for primary and secondary school children, mediation for victims of SGBV, legal analysis, and preparation of legal advice. She also defends victims of sexual gender-based violence, such as rape and domestic violence. Additionally, Ruth organizes and coordinates legal workshops and seminars.
Beyond her legal career, Ruth is actively involved in various leadership positions. She serves as the Legal Adviser for the Akwa Ibom State Drug Control Committee, the Financial Secretary for FIDA Uyo Branch, and previously held the position of Treasurer for the Nigeria Bar Association, Eket Chapter. She is a member of the Nigeria Bar Association, the International Federation of Women Lawyers, and the Institute of Chartered Mediations and Conciliators.
Ruth’s dedication and expertise in her field have been recognized through certifications and licenses she has acquired over the years. She holds certificates in family mediation, managing workplace conflict, and various other specialized training programs related to her profession.
In her spare time, Ruth is passionate about arbitration and mediation, as well as advocating against SGBV and promoting human rights. She is known for her excellent litigation and advocacy skills, strong legal research and writing abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication. Ruth is a goal-oriented and resilient professional who excels both independently and as part of a team. She is proficient in using legal research tools such as Microsoft Office.
Through her work and personal endeavors, Ruth Kingsley Mfon continues to make a positive impact in the field of SGBV, advocating for justice, empowering survivors, and upholding human rights.
